CLEVELAND , Ohio - A previously convicted sex offender was sentenced Thursday for producing child pornography and hosting a server dedicated to trafficking in child pornography. According to the Department of Justice , 34-year-old Gareth S.
Schakel, of Lakewood, was sentenced to 26 years in prison after he plead guilty in January to the following charges:Receipt and distribution of visual depictions of real minors engaged in sexually explicit conductSchakel was also ordered a lifetime of supervised release after he gets out of prison, and was ordered to pay $52,000 in restitution to victims, the DOJ said.The DOJ said he created an “invite only” platform to share the explicit content with other child predators. In April 2023, agents found hundreds of CASM files when they executed a search warrant of Schakel’s electronic devices, and the files included sexual abuse of infants and toddlers.During the investigation, the DOJ said a 15-year-old victim was being sexually exploited by Schakel when he enticed the minor to send him sexually graphic content of herself. Schakel also sent sexually explicit photos of himself to the 15-year-old, and investigators learned that he had also had a previous state conviction from 2011. The DOJ said the 2011 conviction was for pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, as well as convictions for failing to register as a sex offender.Body found wrapped in blankets near Canton creek identified as 46-year-old woman
