From high fives at the entrance and volunteers directing golf fans, to host families providing down-home hospitality to the world's best golfers, the Lancaster County community welcomed the world once again to the U.
S. Women's Open at the Lancaster Country Club.Steve and Mikaela Leaman opened their home to professional golfer and former U.S. Amateur Champion Gabriela Ruffels and her mom. They said it was a great experience, calling Ruffels 'a special person and a great player.' Ruffels said it made being on the road easier.'It was super close to the golf course, and they were super hospitable and couldn't be nicer. It was nice to have that home feel one a week when I'm away,' she said.She finished even par Sunday and 13 over for the Championship. She said the course is a great one that deserves more recognition.Volunteer Patty Ellis is also a fan of the course.'This is top 10 for me. It's William Flynn. William Flynn is my favorite architect,' she said.Volunteers said they try to be as helpful as possible to fans and enjoy working the Championship.A family from New York with roots in the Republic of Korea said the hospitality has been enjoyable and fun, and they appreciate the friendliness.
