PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio - Following the tragedy on April 20 at Valley Forge High School , a group of students came together to do something positive for their school.

The group of students went to the Football Parents Club with one goal, to do something positive for their school and create space that feel welcoming and hopeful again for students, Parma City School District said. The school district said the initiative is focused on healing, reconnecting and moving forward together. Students hope to refresh and rehabilitate areas of the school that now carry difficult memories following the incident, including the cafeteria and courtyard spaces.

The initiative has already received incredible support from students, parents, staff, football families, community members and local businesses, the district shared. Sherwin-Williams has even committed to donating paint for future student-selected projects, and many volunteers have already stepped forward to help with upcoming cleanup and beautification efforts. Community members who would also like to support Forge Strong can donate through the GoFundMe the district shared on its social media.

Student leaders Justin Purcel and Kaiden Hagel said Forge Strong is about more than physical renovations, it’s about helping students create new, positive memories and show what can happen when a community comes together in support during difficult times.
