Ohio Department of Health officials issued a warning about bogus health inspectors.
According to officials, three people visited a food service operation in Cleveland and claimed to be inspectors from the “Ohio Board of Health.”
Health officials said their workers do not routinely inspect locally licensed food facilities. “When in doubt about any inspection for any issue, it’s always good practice to call and verify,” posted health officials on Facebook.
The Ohio Department of Health was made aware of this incident, and we shared it with local health departments in the Northeast Ohio region, as well as other industry stakeholders, to ensure they also were aware of the incident and can inform their area restaurants. ODH does not conduct inspections of restaurants, as those are done by the appropriate local health department. ODH inspectors may occasionally accompany local health department inspectors but would not conduct an inspection on our own.
