The Regional Transportation District ( RTD ) is proposing temporary service changes affecting light rail , bus, and FlexRide routes in the Denver metropolitan area. These changes, slated to begin in June, are designed to accommodate essential reconstruction of downtown light rail lines and align services with current rider patterns. RTD spokesperson Tara Broghammer clarified that the duration of these changes is uncertain, dependent on evaluations conducted three times a year.

The primary impact will be felt on light rail services, particularly the downtown loop, a critical circular route on the H, D, and L lines serving California and Stout streets at 16th and 18th streets. This disruption will likely also affect light rail access in the Five Points neighborhood due to the L Line's suspension. Alongside the light rail adjustments, the proposed changes include modifications to bus and FlexRide schedules and routes, aiming to optimize service delivery. RTD anticipates the arrival of Clean Transit Enterprise grants from new Colorado fees on oil and gas producers, which will fund new services and increase the frequency of bus and light rail routes. More than 1,200 individuals provided feedback to RTD through surveys, which concluded on March 4. Additionally, public input on the proposed alterations was accepted at a March 24 meeting, although attendance was limited. The RTD board may amend the proposed adjustments prior to the final vote, potentially incorporating suggestions from the public. \The D Line, which links commuters from Littleton, Sheridan, and Englewood to downtown Denver, will experience a temporary halt in service beginning June 7. However, the revival of the C Line will ensure service continuity at the stations in the southwestern suburbs. The C Line, instead of reaching 16th or 18th streets, will terminate at Union Station. This resurgence is particularly noteworthy, considering the C Line's prior elimination in 2022 due to low ridership. RTD riders have expressed strong interest in its return to the downtown loop. The RTD's bus route 7, spanning Northglenn to the 38th and Blake Station, is also facing revisions. RTD is considering eliminating the 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. bus departures, resulting in an hourly instead of a half-hourly late-night service. This affects communities heavily reliant on this late-night service. Concerns were expressed about the method of communication used to announce the changes, particularly the lack of Spanish translations on bus decals and the absence of outreach meetings for affected communities. The Platte Valley FlexRide, catering to a sector of west Denver around Empower Field, is also under review. RTD is considering discontinuing it and focusing on areas with higher FlexRide demand, such as the Denver Tech Center. Concerns were raised about the proposed elimination, particularly considering the increase in ridership of the service since last March. The survey results also show that a significant percentage of those who sent feedback regarding the Platte Valley FlexRide viewed the change negatively.\The service alterations reflect RTD's commitment to adapting to changing transportation needs and improving efficiency.
