A man, who is believed to be the father, is in the hospital, officials say.

CLARKSVILLE, Ohio - Five children and a mother are dead while a father remains hospitalized after flames engulfed a home in Clinton County early Tuesday morning, emergency crews confirm. Fire fighters found a man, who is believed to be the dad of the kids, in the kitchen, Clinton County EMA Director Thomas Breckel tells FOX19 NOW “About nine minutes later, they actually found what they believe to be the only survivor-- an adult male,” Breckel said.

Going deeper into the home, firefighters made a tragic discovery. Four children, including an infant, and their mother perished in the fire, said the EMA director.Eight firefighters were also injured while trying to put out the flames. They have since been treated and will be okay. “This is a gut punch,” Breckel continued. “This is a tight, small community. There’s one stoplight, everyone knows everyone’s names, we pass them by the street, and for something like this to happen in the middle of the morning, it’s taken a lot out of the community.” Clarksville resident Jasmine Moore says she lives across the street from the family, and is hoping media coverage could somehow help the family. “I noticed the lights around 6:45 a.m. and went out and seen the house on fire and the first fire truck there,” Moore said.Watch anytime, anywhere with FOX19 NOW+The State Fire Marshal is investigating the deadly fire.
