CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland is working to relocate firefighters from Fire Station 23 on Madison Avenue to a new facility, and the city has warned it may use eminent domain to acquire the property. Capital Projects cites space as a concern.
The city plans to buy a property at West Boulevard and Madison Avenue, which is double the size of the current station and located blocks away.In a letter dated March 24, the mayor’s office offered that amount for the property. According to the city council, the property owner has twice rejected the city’s offers, including the March 24 offer. In that same letter, the mayor’s office warned the owner that if an offer is not accepted, the city could take the route of eminent domain, which is an appropriation proceeding.
