Firefighters responded to a report of smoke at a duplex on South 11th Street in Lebanon, evacuating occupants and battling the blaze. Among the rescued pets were four cats with possible smoke inhalation.
The call came in just after noon on Sunday to South 11th Street, where firefighters said smoke was seen billowing from a duplex that was actively on fire.
Several residents and pets are without a home after a duplex caught fire Sunday afternoon in Lebanon, according to officials. Crews immediately began evacuating occupants of one of the units and searched for further spread of the fire. After confirming the fire had not expanded beyond the duplex, crews began ventilating smoke and fighting the fire. Officials confirmed the duplex is now condemned due to the fire damage.
There was no one home in the unit where the fire started, and the cause of the blaze has not been made public. Four cats were rescued from the home and are being treated for possible smoke inhalation. In the adjacent unit, three adults, one kid, and one dog were evacuated from the home. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania State Police are starting a “Click It or Ticket” campaign, starting May 11.
