Any outstanding burn permits issued at this time have also been revoked.
DOTHAN, Ala. - The Dothan Fire Department has issued a No Burn Order for the city, effective immediately, as the area continues to suffer from drought conditions affecting much of south Alabama. “Due to the lack of rainfall, coupled with the low humidity conditions over the past weeks, conditions are too dangerous to allow any outdoor burning at this time,” Dothan Fire Chief David Hasty said.
The order, which follows the issuance of a Red Flag Warning by the National Weather Service early Monday morning and the Fire Alert issued by the Alabama Forestry Commission, disallows the issuance of any burn permits within city limits by the Fire Prevention Division until “significant rainfall is received in the area.”Deputy Fire Chief Chris Etheredge said this No Burn Order affects any burning of yard debris in containers, but that “commercially manufactured patio fire pits are still permitted along with standard grilling practices.” “The safety of our citizens and the protection of their property will always be paramount in our decision-making process,” Chief Hasty said. Dothan Fire officials said they would continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates about this order when possible.
