NYCHHC discovered a data breach affecting at least 1.8 million patients, exposing sensitive health information, biometric data, billing and payment details, and other compromised data. Affected individuals are advised to take security measures and report any suspicious activity to financial institutions, insurers, and law enforcement.
A major data breach has compromised the personal information of at least 1.8 million patients. NYC Health and Hospitals (NYCHHC), the largest public health system in the US, discovered a cyberattack on February 2, finding unauthorized access to its system between November 25, 2025 and February 11, 2026.
Hackers accessed sensitive information such as health insurance details, medical records, billing information, fingerprint scans, and other biometric data. NYCHHC has since strengthened security, reset compromised account credentials, added new detection and protection tools, tightened remote access policies, and introduced enhanced monitoring to prevent future attacks.
Affected individuals are advised to remain vigilant, monitor their accounts, report any suspicious activity, change passwords, place fraud alerts or security freezes on their credit files, and seek additional information from law enforcement if targeted by identity theft
