Huawei is finally gearing up for a global release of its Mate XT Ultimate foldable smartphone . The company has scheduled a launch event for February 18 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia , and all signs point to the Mate XT making its international debut. The promo image used for the event strongly suggests the Mate XT, featuring the slogan 'Unfold the classic,' a tagline associated with Huawei 's foldable Mate series.
This image is identical to the one used in China last year to tease the triple-fold launch. While the global version is likely to be very similar to its Chinese counterpart, software differences are expected. Huawei may not fully commit to HarmonyOS NEXT globally, opting to keep Android in some form. The recently released Mate X6 serves as an example, sporting HarmonyOS NEXT with a custom kernel in China, while the global version retained EMUI. Therefore, it's likely that the Mate XT will follow suit, utilizing EMUI for its international release. The Mate XT boasts a substantial 10.2-inch display when fully unfolded, providing ample space for productivity apps and a captivating cinematic experience for videos. Although its 90Hz refresh rate is slightly lower than the 120Hz found in most flagship devices, the difference is barely noticeable, ensuring smooth scrolling and animations. Due to the US ban, Huawei has encountered challenges in the chipset arena. The Mate XT Ultimate Design houses the Kirin 9010 processor, built on an older 7nm process. While this places it behind newer chips like Apple's A18 or Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite, it still efficiently handles everyday tasks. Priced high in China, starting around $2,800 when directly converted to USD, the global price may be even higher. However, the exact cost will be revealed closer to the launch date in late February.
