Multiple schools across the Tri-State area were forced to go into lockdown or evacuate after the districts received potential threats Wednesday.

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati FBI is investigating a series of multiple “hoax threats” made to schools across Central and Southern Ohio Wednesday. Three school district in the Tri-State were forced to evacuate or put students and staff into lockdown because of the potential threats.

Mason City Schools, Indian Hill Exempted Village School District and Cincinnati Public Schools all reported getting threats this morning. Officials with the district later reported that there is no credible threat and that all students and staff are safe. The FBI is aware of a number of hoax threats in Central and Southern Ohio. The FBI addresses these threats with the utmost seriousness, as they put innocent lives at risk and are a federal crime. While we have no information to indicate a credible threat, we are currently working with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to gather, share, and act upon threat information as soon as it comes to our attention. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report all suspicious activity and/or individuals to law enforcement immediately. According to Indian Hill Schools, the high school evacuated students and staff due to a potential bomb threat. District officials said Indian Hill Rangers responded to the high school around 11 a.m. to help evacuate the building and secure the scene. Indian Hill Middle School was also evacuated as a precaution. Students have been transported to Indian Hill Elementary School. Rangers completed a full sweep of the building around 1 p.m., and determined it is safe for students and staff to re-enter and get their belongings. Parents and guardians can pickup their high school student at the Sue Harder Memorial Performing Arts Center parking lot or the Indian Hill Middle School parking lot.Cincinnati police assessed the situation and determined the area is clear. The school went back to its normal operations thereafter. “We appreciate the swift response of CPD and CPS Security, as well as the cooperation of our students and staff while the situation was being addressed,” Walnut Hills High School Principal John Chambers wrote.Mason City Schools officials said the high school received a threatening phone call at 10:50 a.m. They did not say what was said over the phone, but it prompted the high school to go into a soft lockdown. Mason police and the school’s Campus Safety team investigated the area and tried to trace where the call came from, officials said. As a precaution, Mason Middle School, Mason Intermediate School and Mason Elementary School were also put on a soft lockdown. “During the investigation, we also learned that schools in several nearby communities reported receiving similar threatening messages today, which law enforcement agencies are actively investigating,” Mason City Schools said in a statement. At 11:44 a.m., police determined there is no credible threat and the schools went back to their normal operations.Avon contractor pleads guilty to schemes totaling nearly $3MThreats prompt lockdowns at multiple NW Ohio schoolsNortheast Ohio police warn residents to be aware of ‘check washing’
