SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio - A man was taken into custody on Wednesday morning after an hours-long standoff in a Shaker Heights apartment building. Shaker Heights Police told 19 News that the standoff lasted around four hours and started at around 2:31 a.m., after reports of a potential armed man making threats.

Warrensville Center Road southbound between South Woodland Road and Farnsleigh Road was closed for several hours as officers responded. One neighbor told 19 News he was startled by police banging on his door.

“Two cops banged on my door and said there was an escalation in the unit below us. I was caught off guard in the morning, but I am glad the police were called,” said one neighborCharges are pending, according to police.

“We are relieved that the situation ended peacefully and that the parents and residents of the building unharmed,” said Hudson. “The quick response by our Officers and the negotiation team was crucial in ensuring everyone’s safety.
