FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio - Dozens of trees have been cut down along I-480 as crews prepare the land for a new noise barrier in Fairview Park later this year.“When they tore all the trees down, you noticed a big change.

We got a lot more noise. I hope the sound wall makes a difference. I mean, if it doesn’t, I’m going to be very disappointed. I think it’ll help,” Fischbach said.“If you’re working out in the yard or something, you don’t really pay attention. You kind of get used to it, but it does bother you at times,” Fischbach said. ODOT said neighborhoods built before the highways were constructed are eligible for a state-funded noise wall. More than 50 percent of people who live along the highway in that neighborhood had to petition for this project. Crews cut down the trees in March. They had to complete the work before April 1 because that’s when endangered Indiana bats start to roost in the trees. The trees will stay where they are until May when crews can start the work for the wall. ODOT expects the project to be done in October. “It can be different in every location. And it also depends on where your home’s located, how sound waves bounce off certain things. So it’s really dependent. But overall, usually we see a good noise reduction, especially for those residents that are right next to the noise barriers,” said Isaac Hunt, ODOT public information officer. The $3.2 million state project will also install sound barriers on I-480 eastbound at W 224th Street and on I-480 westbound between Barton Road and Stearns Road in North Olmsted.Inmate dies after suicide attempt at the Summit County JailIllegal SNAP usage lands Cleveland business owner behind barsCleveland Metropolitan School District to cut 260+ teachers, staff next school year‘I’m too proud to even describe it’: Apollo flight director, Toledo native Gene Kranz describes emotions watching Artemis II mission
