May 2024 has already been noted as one of the hottest in the U.S., and with meteorological summer still to come, temps this year are expected to set even higher records.

The extreme weather was termed the “Superstorm of 1993″ by the National Weather Service because of its size and strength, equal to a Category 3 hurricane. At one point, the storm system ran from Eastern Canada to Central America.All-time lowest temperature: -80 F All-time highest 24-hour snowfall: 78 inches Prospect Creek recorded the coldest-ever U.S. temperature of -80 degrees in 1971. On Oct. 10, 1986, Seward experienced more rainfall than anywhere else in Alaska due to an unrelenting rainstorm.
