The Wolves pulled away in the second half for a 70-50 victory over Eufaula in the 2025 tournament final.
DOTHAN , Ala. - The Dothan High School boys basketball team has kept a tight hold on the gold in the annual Downtown Hoops Classic tournament held at the Dothan Civic Center, and that suffocating stance is not going away this year either.
The Wolves captured their fourth straight championship game victory in the event on Wednesday afternoon with a 20-point, 70-50 win over the Eufaula Tigers. Entering the final day of play, there was definitely a challenge for Dothan in this year’s title matchup, as they faced the last program to make them see anything but victory in the yearly tournament. Eufaula was making their first Hoops Classic championship appearance since 2021, the same year they knocked off the Wolves to take home first place and win what was at the time their third straight title. This year, the Tigers’ task was to prevent the Wolves, the back-to-back-to-back defending champs, from becoming the second team in the tournament’s history to win four straight first-place trophies. Early on, Eufaula seemed up for the task, with the Tigers jumping out to an early lead and holding a one-point advantage after one period of play. Dothan found their footing in the 2nd, with their defense becoming much better at stopping Eufaula and their offense doing just enough to push the Wolves ahead, carrying a 31-25 lead to the locker room at halftime. A lopsided 3rd quarter benefited the hometown Wolves, as Dothan outscored Eufaula 27-11 in the period to push the deficit for the Tigers from single digits and manageable to a hard-to-climb 20-plus point mountain. From there, Dothan managed the game, prevented any lopsided runs in favor of their Barbour County foes, and got the job done at the final buzzer for their record-setting victory.Jordan Rollins led the way for Dothan on the scoresheet, finishing with 14 points, 5 rebounds and a pair of steals in the contest. Diggy Coleman and Tristin Johnson also put up double-digit scoring performances for the Wolves. Coleman would lead the team in blocks in the game with 1 and tied with Rollins for most steals with 2, while Ta’Hare Beacham’s 7 rebounds and Daylan Coleman’s 3 assists led Dothan in the other major categories. Eufaula’s Montravious Cullins led all scorers in the title clash, finishing with 16 points, also finishing the game with a tied-for-team-lead 3 rebounds along with a steal. Cullins was the lone Tigers scorer to reach double-digits in the contest, followed by Ja’Kayden Mahone and Kylan Thomas .Charles Henderson will return to Troy with third-place honors in this year’s Hoops Classic after a 60-44 win over Providence Christian. The Trojans, who over the past two days made their first-ever appearances in the final two rounds of the tournament, faced off an early 20-14 deficit against the Eagles and went into the half down just three. CHHS would outscore Providence 32-13 in the final two periods to claim the bronze in this year’s event. Tyler Cross led Charles Henderson and all scorers with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal for the Trojans, while Providence Christian’s top performance came from Logan Hagler with 13 points, 4 rebounds and an assist for the Eagles.Dothan and Charles Henderson led the way with three players in this year’s All-Tournament Team, with both Eufaula and Providence Christian placing two players apiece.Eufaula - Montravious Cullins and Semaj DaughertyProvidence Christian - Logan Hagler and Pearce Boone 2025 Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic All-Tournament Team: Eufaula's Montravious Cullins and Semaj Daugherty; Dothan's Jordan Rollins, Ta'Hare Beacham and Diggy Coleman; Providence Christian's Pearce Boone and Logan Hagler Coleman would also be awarded top honors as this year’s Hoops Classic Most Outstanding Player.Clarified that the current Dothan High School is the second program to win four straight titles, with the first being the former Dothan High School Tigers.
