After months of anticipation, the Public Utility Commission of Texas announced its selection of seventeen proposals to move forward with, totaling more than $5 billion, as part of the voter-approved Texas Energy Fund .
Though the PUCT is moving forward with each of those proposals, they notedly are not guaranteed to receive the loan. Instead, the PUCT will conduct due diligence meetings with each of the groups, where, as executive director Connie Corona told a Senate panel earlier this week, "each applicant provides detailed documentation that backs up its application."
“This is an enormous step forward in our on-going work to meet the fast-growing demand for electricity in our state,” PUCT Chairman Thomas Gleeson said. “Each application was closely analyzed, and the projects selected to advance will have the greatest impact in meeting the needs of the ERCOT grid and ensure long-term electric reliability in Texas.”
The Texas Energy Fund was approved by Texas voters last November, after it was approved by the Texas legislature. The goal, its supporters say, is to promote dispatchable energy investment in an effort to meet the growing demand from Texas consumers.
