Photographers from Ukraine, the U.S., Nigeria, Romania, the Netherlands, and France compete for the Saltzman-Leibovitz Photography Prize, a prestigious award launched by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz and philanthropist Lisa Saltzman. The winning photographers will receive a total of $20,000 in prize money.

Renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, in collaboration with philanthropist and photographer Lisa Saltzman , has launched a prestigious photography award, the Saltzman-Leibovitz Photography Prize . This global initiative seeks to recognize and support exceptional emerging photographers from diverse backgrounds. The prize, totaling $20,000, is open to creatives based in Ukraine , the U.S., Nigeria , Romania , the Netherlands , and France .

Saltzman, a successful film producer and art enthusiast, established the Saltzman Family Foundation in 2020 to honor her parents, Muriel and Ralph Saltzman, who were passionate art collectors, patrons, and philanthropists. The award's short list features six talented individuals: Elena Kalinichenko of Ukraine, Ka’Vozia Glynn of the U.S., Praise Hassan of Nigeria, Toma Hurduc of Romania, Trâm Nguyễn Quang of the Netherlands, and Zélie Hallosserie of France.These promising photographers have already had the unique opportunity to connect with Leibovitz beyond her celebrity status. They participated in a mentorship program during Leibovitz's tenure as Ikea's artist in residence. The top prize will be awarded to the winner with a $10,000 grant, while the remaining finalists will receive progressively smaller awards of $5,000, $2,000, $1,500, $1,000, and $500. The jury comprises esteemed individuals from the art world, including the curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art; the curator and scholar Isolde Brielmaier; freelance photo editor Kira Pollack; Hauser & Wirth’s associate director Mary Grace Reeder, and Condé Nast’s head creative director Raul Martinez. The selected photographers' work reflects a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Kalinichenko, who chose to stay in Kyiv during the war, captures both the realities of war and the enduring traditions of Ukraine, while Glynn explores the potential of photography to create positive change. Hassan's work delves into themes of personal growth and healing, Hurdoc documents everyday life through a documentary lens, Quang examines memory and nostalgia, and Hallosserie gives voice to the experiences of migrants seeking a better life
