There are two candidates for the republican primary for treasurer in Alabama.
) - The treasurer’s office is one of just statewide political offices in Alabama with an incumbent running for another term. Alabama is an open primary state, allowing voters to select either the democratic or republican ballot.
Voters selecting the republican ballot will have the choice between current-Treasurer Young Boozer or experienced banker Steve Lolley. The office of the treasurer is in charge of tasks like managing and investing state funds, overseeing debt and safeguarding unclaimed property. Treasurer Boozer was first elected in 2010 and served until 2019. He was then appointed by Gov.
Kay Ivey to complete the remainder of John McMillan’s term in 2021. He ran for reelection in 2022.
“I have operated as a smart, conservative fiscal person of responsibility. I have done it, I’ve got great numbers to show that it happened that way, and I pledge that it will continue to happen that way,” said Boozer.
“Well done is better than well said. ”Steve Lolley has decades of banking and business experience and says he served on the Marion Co. Republican Executive Committee from 1994-2000.
“If you feel like it’s time for new thoughts, new ideas, someone that’s younger, someone that’s got more energy, someone who can come in the morning to Montgomery who can come while it’s still dark, then vote for someone like that and I think that’s me,” said Lolley.
