A ship carrying personnel and equipment from Sweden's 71st mechanized infantry battalion arrived in Riga on Saturday, escorted by the Swedish air force and a combined force of Swedish and Latvian naval vessels. Images released by the Swedish armed forces showcased Swedish Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) tracked armored combat vehicles, a model that has seen action in Ukraine. While the precise size of the contingent was not disclosed, reports indicate that the mission will involve 550 Swedish troops. They will be integrated into one of eight NATO brigades positioned along the alliance's eastern flank, stationed outside the town of Adazi, near Riga. Lieutenant Colonel Henrik Rosdahl, commander of the Swedish battalion, characterized the arrival as both a historic occasion and a reflection of the evolving security landscape.
