The event at Chickasabogue Park featured music, food and activities to encourage outdoor recreation.
Earth Day was Wednesday, but a number of organizations and government groups are holding commemoration events this weekend. Saturday’s activities in Eight Mile aimed to encourage people to enjoy one of the county’s large outdoor areas.
There was music, food and other activities.
“It’s always important to learn about what’s going on with the planet, and it’s also a good chance for Mobile County to share some of what it’s doing with conservation, restoration and environmental,” Sharee Broussard, public affairs director for Mobile County, said of the event. Among the supporters were Keep Mobile Beautiful and the Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development Council.
“It’s an excellent way to see a beautiful county park. Also take part in the celebration of trees and plants and music. We have music and the playground and all the other fun things to do you,” said Kris Enzor, president of Keep Mobile Beautiful. Six local teams also received Love Your Community grants of $1,500 from Commissioner Connie Hudson.
They are Loving Litter Pick Up from Bayou La Batre, Friends of Fowl River from the Fowl River Area Civic Association, Flo Claire 2 from midtown Mobile, Trash Busters from the College Wood Civic Association in Eight Mile, Team Up 2 Clean Up from Trinity Gardens, and Revitalize DIP, continuing support for a “Love Your Community/Keep DIP Clean” billboard on Dauphin Island Parkway.
