CLEVELAND, Ohio - A 9-year-old boy was grazed by a stray bullet while sitting in the back seat of his father’s car Saturday afternoon near a McDonald’s in the Collinwood area. Cleveland EMS responded to a report of two minors shot just before 4 p.
m. at the McDonald’s on E 152nd Street and St. Clair Avenue. Cleveland EMS confirmed a 9-year-old and a 17-year-old were shot and had non-life threatening injuries. Both were taken to the hospital. We heard the screaming and the three teenagers took their hoodies off,” Packer said.Father drives son across intersection to get help Packer’s car was hit by a stray bullet, shattering his rear window. He pulled into a gas station and discovered his son had been hit. “The glass was broken and it was all over him and he had the red spot on his chest. I went back there and he was telling me that he’s okay,” Packer said. Packer described the wound as about the size of a quarter and said the bullet came through the side of the car.“The way he said ‘I’m okay,’ I knew something was not right,” he said.Packer called 911, but said no officers came to the gas station where he was waiting. “I had to say, ‘Am I getting help or am I leaving? Do I just go to the hospital? Or do I just go to these police now? What do I do?’” Packer said. He drove across the intersection to where police had blocked off a car in front of Collinwood High School. “I eventually gave up on waiting for the ambulance and I drove across that intersection to where they had the car blocked off in front of Collinwood. I was able to get the officers attention,” he said.“He was much calmer than I was. He was braver than me. I was very very scared,” Packer said.“Joseph is a very brave young man. He’s doing tremendous. His spirits are really well, he’s kind of acting as if it’s just another day.
