CLEVELAND, Ohio - A 16-year-old boy who was shot by Cleveland police while driving a stolen car, will be sentenced in Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Monday.

One count of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officerThe teenager was shot on Dec. 14, 2024 in the 800 block of E. 146th St. According to police, the Cleveland Division of Police Third District Vice Unit was conducting an investigation for over 30 “fresh” car break-ins in the Midtown Neighborhood. Investigators checked a vacant home and found a recently reported stolen white Kia Sportage with three people inside, according to police.

Officers said they again attempted to make contact with the people in the car and said it appeared the driver, later identified as Johnson, was sleeping. He then tried to push the cruiser with the car, reversed and hit a garage, then again drove towards officers. Johnson, who was 14 at the time, was treated and released from a local hospital.
