USA Rare Earth successfully produces high-purity dysprosium oxide from its Texas Round Top deposit, marking a significant advancement in domestic rare earth production.
USA Rare Earth announced on Tuesday that it has successfully produced a sample of dysprosium oxide (Dy₂O₃) with a purity of 99.1 wt.%. This achievement, according to the company, signifies a major advancement in domestic rare earth production.
The dysprosium oxide sample was extracted from ore sourced from the Texas Round Top deposit and processed using USA Rare Earth's proprietary rare earth extraction and purification technology, which was developed at its research facility in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. A third-party ISO 17025 certified laboratory verified the purity of the produced sample, confirming the company's capability to extract and process high-grade rare earth oxides from its Texas Round Top deposit.The production of dysprosium oxide holds significant importance due to its crucial role in advanced technologies that leverage the unique properties of heavy rare earth elements. Dysprosium serves as a key component in technologies such as semiconductors and numerous NdFeB rare earth magnets. NdFeB magnets are indispensable for high-efficiency electric vehicle motors, wind turbine generators, and advanced defense systems, including missile guidance and control systems, among other applications. The company's CEO, Joshua Ballard, expressed excitement over the progress made in bringing this processing capability back to the United States.
