The community is mourning the death of 26-year-old Dylan Chase Owen, who died while on duty.
) - A Citronelle police officer died in a single-vehicle crash while on duty, prompting an outpouring of grief from the community. Police and firefighters responded to a call near Mobile Street and Laird Drive on Thursday.
Investigators say 26-year-old Dylan Chase Owen was killed in the crash. Owen had been with the Citronelle Police Department for two years. Chavell Parker, owner of Migh-Tree Design, said the officer’s death has affected the entire community. While she didn’t know Owen personally, she said people have been sharing stories about his impact.
“Someone came in today and she said I just bought him a drink yesterday and he was playful arguing back and forth with her but it was stories that we can remember of just how good of an officer he was and how much he cared for the community,” Parker said. “It’s one of those things where it’s a tragic event.
All we can do is learn to see each other and to hold close of what we have that links us together. To be there for one another,” Parker said. An obituary says the funeral is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Restoration Church, 8520 W. State Street in Citronelle. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
