King Charles III embarks on his first official visit to Lancashire as monarch, meeting local businesses and veterans.
King Charles III made his first official visit to Lancashire since ascending to the throne, embarking on a tour of the county as the Duke of Lancaster. During his visit, he met with local businesses, including Gillian Hale, owner of Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses. The King expressed his fondness for sheep's cheese on a digestive biscuit, and while he sampled a number of the cheeses on display, Hale mentioned they would be sending him a goody bag with some samples later.
The King also enjoyed a performance by a Fijian choir from the First Battalion of The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. This visit holds special significance as it marked King Charles's first official journey to Lancashire as monarch. He previously met with 101-year-old veteran Fred Brock in Normandy and was impressed by his age, encouraging him to keep drinking whisky. Brock's son, Tony, shared that the King even remarked on Brock's remarkable health, praising him as 'amazing for his age.' This heartwarming interaction highlights King Charles's fondness for engaging with the people he meets and sharing moments of connection. Earlier, The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, stepped in to represent King Charles at an event, amid calls for the King to slow down his royal engagements
