A weak storm brought light rain to parts of the Bay Area overnight, with the Santa Cruz Mountains and San Francisco Peninsula seeing the highest chances of measurable precipitation. Temperatures are expected to cool before a drying trend begins at the end of April. This month has seen significant rainfall in San Jose and Oakland.
The rain showers began with a drizzle across Monterey and San Benito counties Saturday evening, with portions extending over the Santa Cruz Mountains, said Rick Canepa, meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
Though capping off a rainy month, this storm is only expected to bring a couple hundredths of an inch to two-tenths of an inch in its rainiest regions, Canepa added.
“Not all locations are expected to measure,” Canepa said. “The Santa Cruz Mountains, along the San Francisco Peninsula and parts of the East Bay area have the best chance of light, measurable precipitation tonight. ” Some rain could last into the daylight hours, but most will come overnight. The North Bay was not expected to receive any rain from the storm, he added.
“It’s a weak system, overall,” Canepa said. “Otherwise, we’ll be on the drying trend for the Bay Area. ”, Canepa said. San Jose has received 1.85 inches of rain this month – the highest amount since April 2010.
In Oakland, there have been 3.53 inches of rain, marking the most April rain in the city since 2006. Temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-40s to low 50s as the cool front arrives overnight, with highs reaching the low- to mid-60s during the day on Sunday. After this storm departs on Sunday, the Bay Area will see a drying pattern through the end of April, Canepa said.
