The Dragon Ball universe is renowned for its incredible battles against immensely powerful foes. Goku and his allies have consistently faced adversaries who excel in both raw physical strength and cunning intellect, including iconic villains like Majin Buu, Jiren, and Frieza.
Throughout the series' history, a recurring threat has emerged in the form of brilliant, yet morally questionable, scientists driven by personal vendettas against the Z Fighters. Now, a recent artistic contribution to the official Dragon Ball website sheds light on some of these often-overlooked antagonists. Toyotaro, the artist behind the ongoing Dragon Ball Super manga, regularly produces monthly artwork that delves into the rich history and lore of the franchise.
These pieces often explore characters and events both within the established canon and those existing outside of the main storyline. In this latest installment, Toyotaro has focused on a quartet of mad scientists, offering a visual tribute to their contributions to the Dragon Ball mythos. Interestingly, the artwork notably omits Dr. Gero, the original architect of the Androids and Perfect Cell, despite his pivotal role in the series.
While Gero met his demise during the Cell Saga, his legacy has persisted through his grandson, Dr. Hedo, who has become a significant figure in recent Dragon Ball Super storylines. This choice to highlight other, less prominent scientists suggests a deliberate effort to expand upon the series' villainous roster and explore untapped potential. The featured scientists represent a diverse range of motivations and affiliations within the Dragon Ball universe.
Dr. Kochin, positioned prominently in the artwork, was a key figure in the quest to revive Dr. Wheelo, another villain depicted in the piece. Wheelo, initially appearing within an automaton during the movie *Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero*, later revealed his true human form in the spin-off series. Adjacent to Kochin is Dr. Lychee, also known as Dr. Raichi, a relatively obscure scientist who played a role in the special *Dragon Ball Z: Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans*.
A fascinating aspect of Lychee’s character is his affiliation with the Tuffle race, a people decimated by the Saiyans and consumed by a desire for revenge. This connection adds a layer of complexity to his motivations. Dr. Myuu, also a Tuffle, is also included in the artwork. He is known for his involvement in the creation of Baby, a powerful parasitic villain, and his assistance to Dr. Gero in the development of Super 17.
