DOTHAN, Ala. - Construction on Dothan’s new city hall is moving forward, with the city commission attending a topping-out ceremony as most of the structural framework for the facility is complete. Crews continue to work on the $56 million project as the commission reviewed the latest progress.
The city center, located across from the Houston County Courthouse, will serve as a central hub for Dothan, housing several departments as well as the city commission. The commission chamber will be housed on the first floor. City Manager Randy Morris said putting the commission chamber there was an important choice with public access in mind. “As you know, our existing city hall, the commission chamber, is up on the second floor. So anybody who wants to come to it, they’re having to come through, go upstairs or go up the elevator; the new commission chamber is going to be right here at the primary entrance to city hall. So visitors can come right in and walk within 30 feet to the new commission chamber,” Morris said.“Today marks the day where we show that the town is a city on the move, where the city hall has its own campus, where all of our employees can be something that the city can be proud of for the next 50 or 60 years,” Saliba said. The city center project is on track to be completed by February of next year.
