Diane Leary—aka Meme—just shared a truly cozy side dish we can't wait to try.
This cabbage casserole combines simple, wholesome ingredients for a flavorful, veggie-packed side dish. The recipe features shredded cabbage , corn flakes , butter and a creamy, cheesy sauce for rich comfort.
There are plenty of perks to adding a bit more cabbage to your diet. Not only is this cruciferous vegetable delicious in everything from, shared a cabbage recipe that sounds like a perfect, easy side dish we cannot wait to try.
"Today I am introducing you to my award-winning cabbage casserole," Leary says in a reel showcasing the dish. "The first thing you do is melt one stick of butter. "We love the toasty flavor that butter brings to all sorts of vegetables—though you could absolutely cut some of the butter in this recipe if you like—so we wanted to try this recipe as soon as we saw it. After all, what's not to love about a hot, buttery cabbage casserole?
Through the rest of the Instagram clip, MeMe walks followers through all the steps to making her cabbage casserole. Turns out, it's pretty simple.
"In a large bowl, you're going to add 4 cups of corn flakes and 4 cups of shredded cabbage," says Leary. "I buy mine already shredded, and I like the tri-color. Pour your melted butter over your corn flakes and cabbage and gently stir them.
" The ingredients that come next are the stuff melty, cheesy casserole heaven is made of 1 cup mayonnaise—Leary recommends Duke’s—some diced onion, milk, cream of celery soup and shredded sharp cheese. "Add all of those ingredients and let them get well-acquainted with one another," says MeMe. "Lightly grease your 9-by-13-inch casserole dish. Cook this for 45 minutes at 350 degrees, uncovered.
" Sounds easy enough. And when the cabbage casserole comes out of the oven, Leary confirms it's just as good as she remembered.
"Y'all this is still a winner," she says. "Oh, it is so good. "As for us, we'll be following along to see what other yummy dishes MeMe shares with her social media followers. In the past, the southern grandma has shared everything from how to make strawberry freezer jam to her recipe for icebox cake, so we're betting everything that comes from Leary's kitchen is just as yummy as her cabbage casserole.
