Fairview Park Senior Center members recently participated in a scam discussion with Cuyahoga County Council District 1’s Patrick Kelly.FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- Fairview Park Senior Center members recently participated in a discussion about scams with Cuyahoga County Council District 1 Councilman Patrick Kelly.

“I partnered with the county’s Department of Consumer Affairs and our Scam Squad to conduct a game of SCAMO in Fairview Park, because scams are smarter and more prevalent than ever,” Kelly said. “Taking information about scams, which can be complicated and convoluted, and turning it into its own version of BINGO makes it much easier for many populations to understand.”Department of Consumer Affairs Specialist Drew Thomas spoke to 61 seniors who attended the event. Kelly applauded the county’s Department of Consumer Affairs for creating the unique game and helping Fairview Park residents learn more about how to protect themselves from scammers. “Our senior community is hit especially hard by scams because of the ever-evolving technology that helps make them possible,” Kelly said. “Games like these help our older adults feel comfortable asking questions and inform them where they can go or what they should do if they believe they are a victim of a scam.”The concert -- themed “Peace and Love” -- will feature music from the ’60s and ’70s. The Lakewood Project will be joined by seventh- and eighth-grade orchestra students from Garfield and Harding middle schools. It’s that time of the year for a North Olmsted Senior Center chili fundraiser.Devon Oaks is sponsoring a chili lunch complete with cornbread and dessert.Readers are invited to share information about themselves, their families and friends, organizations, church events, etc. in Fairview Park, Lakewood, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township and West Park for the A Place in the Sun column, which I write on a freelance basis.
