Human remains were found after a travel trailer fire in Big Lake on Wednesday
BIG LAKE, Alaska - Human remains were found in a burned trailer after it caught fire in Big Lake on Wednesday, according to the Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, the AST were notified of the trailer fire on Burma Road .
A preliminary investigation determined the fire started accidentally and originated near the center of a trailer next to a large propane tank that fueled personal heater. Area firefighters did not respond, as the location was outside of a designated fire service area. Troopers responded and found the fire was confined to the trailer and there was little risk of spreading.
At 7 a.m., Troopers returned to the scene, found human remains inside the trailer and notified the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Deputy State Fire Marshals responded, recovered the human remains and conducted an origin and cause investigation. The remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and positive identification.
