Faulkner University is working to improve roadway safety for local students through its “Eyes Up” awareness program.
High school students in grades 10 through 12 visited Faulkner classrooms Wednesday morning to learn about the dangers of distracted driving . The event included presentations and a hands-on driving simulator designed to show how quickly attention lapses can lead to crashes.
“Drivers are so distracted. It is so important for these young students to get information on how to drive safer, as they’re starting out their journey in driving,” said Director of Risk Management & Insurance for the Harris College of Business, Patsy Hughes. Faulkner leaders say the discussions also connect to coursework offered at the university, including how distracted driving ties into insurance and risk management. “The risk management and insurance degree focuses on how we’re developing students to go out into the insurance workforce and become leaders in risk-management and part of distracted driving directly affects the insurance companies,” said Rayla Black, chair of Faulkner University’s College of Business.Faulkner University says it plans to continue using the “Eyes Up” discussions as part of ongoing instruction and outreach focused on safer driving habits for young motorists.Man charged after reportedly shooting friend at Montgomery barbeque gatheringRestoration of fire-damaged state veterans home still on track, Alabama VA saysRestoration of fire-damaged state veterans home still on track, Alabama VA says
