Libra Token Creator Bragged About Controlling Argentine President
LIBRAJavier MileiHayden Davis

A CoinDesk investigation reveals that Hayden Davis, the CEO of Kelsier Ventures and co-creator of the Libra token, allegedly boasted about controlling Argentine President Javier Milei through payments to his sister, Karina Milei. Davis' claims, made in December text messages, add a new dimension to the ongoing anti-corruption probe into Milei.

A key figure behind the Libra token, Hayden Davis , the CEO of Kelsier Ventures , boasted in text messages reviewed by CoinDesk about acquiring influence over Argentine President Javier Milei months before the memecoin's controversial launch and subsequent crash. Davis asserted in these December messages that he could 'control' Milei due to payments he made to Karina Milei , the president's sister and a prominent figure in his government.

'I control that n****,' Davis allegedly stated, adding, 'I send $$ to his sister and he signs whatever I say and does what I want.' \Karina Milei's office did not respond to requests for comment, while Davis himself did not respond to multiple attempts to reach him. It remains unclear if any financial transactions occurred between Davis and Milei's inner circle prior to Libra's launch. However, Davis' December claims introduce a new dimension to an anti-corruption investigation initiated by Argentina's presidential office into Javier Milei. Milei had highlighted Libra as a novel way to support small businesses in Argentina on February 15th. \But the primary beneficiary of the Solana-based memecoin's launch was Davis and Kelsier Ventures. Wallets controlled by these entities amassed over $100 million in Libra's initial hours when its price surged to $5 before crashing by over 95%, decimating millions of dollars of speculative investments. This incident, dubbed 'cryptogate' by local media, has negatively impacted Argentina's stock market and prompted Milei to engage in 'damage control,' according to one observer of the country's cryptocurrency landscape. Davis' December text messages also revealed his ability to influence Milei on social media. Milei's tweet endorsing Libra two months later fueled the memecoin's rapid ascent. However, after just five hours – and following the discovery by on-chain investigators of evidence of dubious dealings – Libra's price plummeted.
