Austin Man Allegedly Throws Rocks From Overpass onto Vehicles on Ben White Boulevard

A 45-year-old man has been booked into Travis County Jail after allegedly throwing rocks and bricks from an overpass on Ben White Boulevard, causing four vehicles to be damaged. He barricaded himself in an elevated position and prompted a SWAT callout.

Travion Washington, 45, was booked into Travis County Jail at 7:05 p.m. Thursday. He faces one count of assault causing bodily injury, six counts of deadly conduct and four counts of criminal mischief.

The traffic was backed all the way to Montopolis, probably farther.

" Navarro said she got up towards the area where Washington was allegedly throwing rocks and saw people "filming or talking to the officers about the situation. " Hostage negotiators, K-9 units, Travis County constables, Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS all responded before SWAT officers detained Washington. APD Officer Austin Zarling said the area beneath the overpass showed signs of homelessness but that it was unclear whether Washington lived there or had hidden there to avoid officers.
