Five people are dead after a three-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 281 in Marble Falls Sunday afternoon, including two children and an 80-year-old driver whose vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, police said.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:59 p.m. in the 3100 block of South U.S. Highway 281, according to the Marble Falls Police Department. Officers determined that Antonio Lara, 80, of Lago Vista, was driving a black Nissan pickup truck northbound when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes. The Nissan first sideswiped the rear of a white BMW. The BMW sustained minor damage and all three occupants survived.
The Nissan then struck a silver Hyundai head-on. The Hyundai was occupied by Roxanne Mowrey, 50, Ron Dykes, 55, and two girls, ages 3 and 5. Two suspects are in custody and a third remains at large Sunday afternoon following at least 10 shootings across South Austin that left four people injured.
