Pat McGrath Launches Glass Skin Mask Inspired by Viral Couture Moment

A year after the internet went wild for Pat McGrath's glass skin beauty look at the John Galliano Margiela Artisanal show, the iconic makeup artist is releasing Glass 001 Artistry Mask to the public. The peel-off mask promises to deliver the same otherworldly radiance, with skincare benefits like glycerin, rose flower water, and allantoin.

It was around this time last year that the internet lost its mind over the “ glass skin ” beauty look that makeup legend Pat McGrath created for John Galliano’s Margiela Artisanal show during Couture Fashion Week.

On a dank quay beneath Paris’s Pont Alexandre III, a beauty moment of epic proportions was born. At the time McGrath, who has masterminded some of the greatest runway beauty looks of all time, told Vogue: “In my 35-plus years of beauty I have never, ever seen a reaction like this. And it has blown me away how people have had such an emotional connection to these looks… It is one of the great pleasures of my life to be able to inspire in this way.” Now, runway magic can be yours. Today, Skin Fetish: Glass 001 Artistry Mask launches to the public. Vogue's senior beauty and wellness editor, Margaux Anbouba, visited the Pat McGrath offices and was one of the first people to try it. Glass 001 Artistry Mask is a peel-off mask that, when applied and set, gives the exact glass-like radiance that so captivated the audience that night. The added bonus? It’s packed with skincare ingredients like glycerin, rose flower water, and allantoin to soothe, refresh, and rejuvenate. Speaking exclusively to Vogue from Paris on the cusp of the spring 2025 couture shows, McGrath’s excitement around the launch of the product is palpable . The product is finally here—is the world ready? “I certainly hope so! This product is so magical and simple that I think people are going to have a lot of fun creating their own version of otherworldly looks. My hope is that they will create their own viral moments, taking their glass skin to the streets and showing how this amazing, subversive look can be worn in the every day when you are going about your business. It will be so much fun—you’re going to see heads turning everywhere!” How are we using it? “Apply in thin, even layers for a dewy, glass-like glow—perfect before make-up or on bare skin. Build layers to customize your shine, from subtle to high-impact brilliance. It’s versatile: one layer gives you spa skin, two layers give you a luminous glow, and three layers bring full-on glass skin.” Talk to us about your “spotlighting” technique “There are so many fun ways to use this product. You can spotlight features by applying it to the high points of your face—cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and chin—for a radiant, plastic shine. Pair it with a touch of highlighter or luminous moisturizer to enhance the glass skin effect without going all in. Customize the application: less is more if you’re after a soft, natural glow, or layer it under make-up for a smooth, radiant base without the ultra-glassy finish.” Could you have anticipated how crazy the reaction would have been? “All of us who worked on the show had an inkling that this was going to be truly something special —the energy backstage was major. And when I saw the hyper-reflective skin paired with John’s history-making designs, I had a feeling it would captivate the imaginations of fashion and beauty lovers alike. But the scale of the response still remains mind-blowing to this day, and it really hasn’t slowed down. To continue to see amazing takes on the look from the beauty community has been so incredible. I’m beyond excited to hear what people think about this product, and see what they can do with it.” How long has this new product been in development? “Everyone knows that for me, beauty always starts with the skin. It’s the foundation for every look I do, and I’ve become known in the industry for luminous skin. For many years I have been obsessed with taking luminosity to the next level and have been testing and working with labs on products to perfect this phenomenon. Of course this “glow-rious” reaction certainly accelerated the timeline! With every product I create, I take my learnings from backstage. For glass skin, I wanted to bottle up what I created into one easy-to-use product. No mixing multiple ingredients, no airbrush machines like we used for the show – just the simple application of one product. I also wanted it to make your skin look – and feel – glowing once it’s removed, which is why I added some skincare ingredients. We’ve been working on this for a while and we are excited to bring it to the market around the one year anniversary of the Maison Margiela Artisanal show.” What is next for Pat McGrath Labs… any sneak peeks we can hint at? “I have so many fun tricks up my sleeve that I think you will be excited about. My ultimate ‘glass skin’ finish won’t end with this mask. You’re going to see the return of some cult favorite products, as well as new launches and expanded franchises. So stay tuned—there’s so much more brilliance to come. But for now: on with the shows!” Skin Fetish: Glass 001 Artistry Mask will be available to shop on January 30th 2025 exclusively at patmcgrath.com

NY Rep. Torres Criticizes Hochul For Ignoring Calls to Ban Masks, Citing Antisemitism ConcernsNY Rep. Torres Criticizes Hochul For Ignoring Calls to Ban Masks, Citing Antisemitism ConcernsRep. Ritchie Torres accused Governor Kathy Hochul of neglecting a crucial issue by failing to address the push for a mask ban in her State of the State address. Torres argues that lifting the mask mandate allows individuals to conceal their identities, potentially emboldening hate mongers and criminals, particularly in light of recent anti-Israel protests. He cites a poll showing strong public support for a mask ban and historical examples of mask bans used to combat groups like the KKK. While Hochul's office defended her record on fighting antisemitism, Torres expressed disappointment at the omission of the topic from her major address.
