Fairbanks man Jonathan Wright, 42, died Sunday after suffering a stab wound in his chest.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Fairbanks man Jonathan Wright , 42, died Sunday after suffering a stab wound in his chest, according to the Fairbanks Police Department , and his significant other, Audrey Sheldon , has been taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center, charged with his murder.
According to a FPD press release, the department responded to a residence on Stewart Street Sunday morning, where officers say they found Wright without a pulse. The initial report to the police claimed that Wright’s wound was self-inflicted, but the department said witness testimony disagreed and FPD Chief Ron Dupee said that while being questioned by police, Sheldon’s story changed multiple times. She later admitted to stabbing Wright. Dupee advised that witnesses be honest when questioned by police.
“The officer’s job is to find out what, what truly happened, so, you know, being honest with the officers and, and providing what you saw, what you heard, those type of things help the officers determine what happened at the scene and provides an overall picture that we can then determine if there has been a crime that was committed,” he said. If someone has observed something they think may be a crime, they are asked to stick around until police officers arrive.
“At least provide your name and number so that we can contact you in the future if we do have any further questions,” Dupee said. Noting that Sheldon has a history of charges involving domestic violence, Dupee said, “Anybody that’s either involved in a situation like this or has friends or family that are involved in this, we would recommend that you reach out and get help.
” Resources for those experiencing domestic violence can be found at the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living, and FPD can also help if needed, Dupee said. Alaska’s News Source reached out to the Fairbanks Public Defender office but has not heard back as of publication.
