Dogs with the Northwest Alabama K-9 Search & Rescue are searching the area Saturday morning near a resident’s home where his dog brought a piece of remains to his door Friday night.working in an area around the residence in the Locust Shores community, according to WAFF 48’s newspaper partner, the Times Daily.
Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan said that they will deliver the remains on Monday morning to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville to determine whether the owner’s dog found a piece of human remains or not on Friday night.
A resident on Locust Lane in the Locust Shores community contacted police around 8:30 p.m. and said his dog had dug up what looked to be a piece of human remains and brought it to his home.
“Our guys went out there and collected it and sent pictures to me. I then sent the photos to the coroner, who later sent the photos to a pathologist,” Logan said. “To me, it looks more like a hand because the appendages are way too long to be a foot.”
“Our guys searched the area around the resident’s home and found nothing,” Logan said. “We have contacted Corey to have him come in with cadaver dogs to search the area.”
Logan said the residence is outside the city’s limits, but it is located within the police jurisdiction.Copyright 2026 WAFF. All rights reserved.
