It has been a whirlwind of a year for Kimberly Howard, and the accolades go on for days.
The Coosada Elementary School first grade teacher was named both her school’s teacher of the year and Elmore County ’s elementary teacher of the year. Her principal said she is very deserving. “She was our Coosada Elementary School teacher of the year, she’s the Elmore County elementary teacher of the year, as well,” said Jan McKenzie, Coosada Elementary School ’s principal.
“She’s just the epitome of what a teacher should be.”“Great students, great parents, it’s just a great environment to teach in,” Howard said. With 21 years of experience, in the classroom, she taught various grade levels throughout her career in Phenix City, Alabama, Columbus, Georgia, and now, Elmore County. She moved to the area four years ago when her husband took a job at Alabama State University.“You’re teaching things that are exciting to them. They’re learning how to read, and they get so excited when they’re learning how to read, and when they get something new, it’s an excitement in their eyes. You don’t see that with the older kids as much,” Howard said. The educator, who is originally from Phenix City, graduated from Troy University and Auburn University at Montgomery.
