For yet another year, the Cook Inlet Soccer Club has produced a number of athletes whose talent has propelled them to the collegiate ranks as 10 more players are off to the next level.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - For yet another year, the Cook Inlet Soccer Club has produced a number of athletes whose talent has propelled them to the collegiate ranks as 10 more players are off to the next level.

“It’s so cool how last year there was, like 11 players as well, and then this year, another 10,” Current South High Wolverine and future Regis Ranger Regis Brianna Bailey said. “It’s kind of crazy just seeing how many athletes come out of this club and program and it’s just cool to be a part of it.

” Eight girls and two boys put pen to paper in front of family, friends and members of the Cook Inlet Youth Soccer Clubs Monday at the Dome to celebrate the accomplishment.

“It feels really great because I know that all my hard work has paid off and all the money and time that my parents have spent has just made my dreams come true and I’m very excited,” South’s nearly impenetrable goalkeeper Samantha Stoehner said. She is taking her gloves to Central Christian College of Kansas.

The members of the ‘07 Cook Inlet Girls Soccer team made historic runs at national tournaments and have dominated their age group in, and out, of the state.

“It was super exciting, especially like knowing that we’ve been through so much as a team, not only with like injuries and travel and different things, and then just being able to look out and see all of the little kids that are looking up to you is just super cool and exciting,” Wasilla’s Makenna Hanson said, who signed to Minnesota State Moorhead. ″Cook Inlet has the best competition there is in the state and they offer a very competitive practice, and they just make you work hard and bring that determination and passion to the game and I just love it," added Chugiak’s Mary Jo Landon, who is currently leading the state in goals scored.

Champion teammates for South and Cook Inlet Bailey and Addysen Gasser are combining forces once again for Regis University, who compete in DII’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference out of Denver, Colorado.

“It kind of just happened, honestly, we both ended up going to a camp together in Colorado and I think we both just fell in love with the school, I mean, I know I did,” Bailey said. “I’ve always wanted to go to school in Colorado,” Gasser jumped in. “I love Regis, I love the school, I love the coach and the staff that they have there. , I love the girls.

And I’m super excited because I’m going with someone I know, so it’ll be fun. ” Not only are the athletes prolonging their playing careers, but their education as well. Fellow Bailey and South High Wolverines Addison Bailey are heading to Colorado School of Mines and landed at the DII school mainly for its academics.

“I really want to do engineering, Colorado obviously is way closer to home and then the soccer worked out,” Bailey said, who will be just 15 minutes away from her cousin Brianna at Regis. “I was a later commit, and it was something that kind of I always wanted to do I didn’t know if it would happen, and it worked out in the best way.

” These soccer standouts go to various school, making them ‘rivals’ when the high school season comes around.

“To be honest, it is like tough going against all my other teammates because they are just great players, but it is also fun at the same time, being on the field and just like joking around with them and having a lot of fun,” Landon said. Service High duo and longtime Cook Inlet members Cameron Hickamn and Sage Phimmasone signed side-by-side Monday. They are in their last run as teammates before parting ways to college.

“It feels really great signing together, having one person to stick it out with and not being the only guy here,” Hickman joked. “I’ve been with the club since I was 3 as well,” Phimmasone added. “This club taught me the fundamentals, they really pushed me to better myself on and off the pitch. ” One athlete was celebrated right alongside the rest of her soccer teammates but signed to compete in a different sport in college.

Anna Green found out her speed on the pitch translates to the track and is sprinting off to DII’s Minnesota State University Moorhead. ”It’s a really big accomplishment and I think we did it by all, like, working together, and we all built each other up and encouraged each other," Green said.

“I’ve played that my entire life, I only started running track in 8th grade,” she added. “And I think just soccer started me into sprinting and it was like, ‘you go run after the ball’... And then it helped me with soccer and it helped me with my soccer career and like moving forward. ” Green is the reigning 200-meter state champion and holds the school record in the 400 at 59.00 seconds.
