The office of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle blames an issue in the Cook County Assessor's Office, saying data was not transmitted in a timely manner.
However, Assessor Fritz Kaegi's Office said it does not determine when tax bills go out. Kaegi claims it's the contractor's fault, adding that it has been sounding the alarm on this issue for months. "We have made repeated requests from the vendor, Tyler Technologies, to change these specific IDOR reports to ensure that they are wholly accurate," Kaegi said. Tax attorney Aaron Fox said this shouldn't really affect homeowners unless the tax bills end up very delayed. In which case, they run close to the next due installment. "If there's a shot time, it's just harder on people. If they're paying out of their own pocket, it's hard to save that money, it's such a short amount of time you're like I just paid a huge amount and now to pay 55% of the other one, it's a huge mega bill. That would be the worst case," Fox explained. Preckwinkle's office said while they wish the assessor brought the issue to them sooner they're working to get tax bills out as quickly as possible. Tyler Technologies told ABC7 that its continuing to work with their client to ensure the information needed to complete their process is available.
