ANCHORAGE, Alaska - With the final track season of their standout high school careers underway, a pair of Chugiak Mustangs officially signed to run at the next level Monday. The duo of Hannah Shaha and Petra Knox held a joint signing ceremony attended by their families, coaches and teammates to celebrate their commitments. “It’s really exciting,” Knox said. “I’m very excited to start something new and meet even more people.” “I would have never expected to be able to sign for college, so I’m excited that it finally happened,” Shaha added.

She also grabbed a 22nd-place finish at October’s ASAA State Championship in Shaha, who was named as the Alaska girls cross country Gatorade Player of the Year in 2023, finished atop the state in bothin her career. She took first at the 2023 ASAA State Championship in cross country and won the 3200 meters at the 2025 ASAA Division 1 State Championships in outdoor track last spring. “These two girls have been, from day one, even as freshmen, they were kind of like young women already,” Chugiak track head coach Melissa Hall said. “They were the type of athletes who would show up to practice on time, ask what else they could do, sometimes do things without being asked. They became leaders on our team.”
