The ACP100 or Linglong One is designed to have a 125 MW (electric) output, and it is also capable of 385 MW (thermal) output.
China has announced the completion of cold functional testing of the ACP100 small modular nuclear reactor demonstration project. The nuclear reactor demonstration project is being built at the Changjiang site in China ’s island province of Hainan.
The announcement regarding the completion of cold functional tests at the ACP100 – also known as the Linglong One- was made by the China National Nuclear Corporation on Thursday.China says the Linglong One is the world’s first commercial land-based small modular reactor to pass a safety review by the International Atomic Energy Agency . Earlier this year, in April, the first main pump of the Linglong One nuclear reactor was successfully put in place.Cold functional test completion and what’s next for the SMR projectA cold functional test on a nuclear reactor is done in the pre-fuel loading phase. The CFT aims to verify the proper installation and operation of all the systems, equipment, and pipelines under pressure in non-nuclear conditions. The comprehensive set of tests simulates the plant’s thermal conditions and checks for smooth functionality, leak-proofing, and more. It aims to check even the installation and functions of the auxiliary systems.“The successful cold functional test of the primary circuit of the Linglong One small reactor demonstration project demonstrates the integrity and sealing of the primary circuit pressure boundaries,” CNNC said, as per a report by the World Nuclear News.CNNC further said that the completion of cold testing paves the way for the hot trials and reactor loading.Following the completion of cold testing, the CNNC will aim to carry out the hot functional tests. In this, the temperature of the reactor coolant system will be increased to ensure that the coolant circuits are operating as they should. This is done to simulate the thermal working conditions of the nuclear power plant and to ensure that all parts of the nuclear island meet the requirements.ACP100 or Linglong One nuclear reactorBeing developed by the CNNC, the ACP100 is a 125 megawatt capacity small modular reactor. CNNC says the nuclear reactor can also have 385 MW thermal output. The nuclear reactor is designed to have a life of 60 years, with a two-year refueling cycle period.CNNC says that the integrated pressurized water reactor can also be used for regional heating, seawater desalination, and industrial steam supply in addition to power generation.Because of its size and ability to deliver power safely and steadily, it has been called a “nuclear power bank.”China’s state-owned Global Times reported that the reactor is part of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan , focusing on advanced nuclear technology. Each unit of the Linglong One can produce up to 125,000 kilowatts and generate up to one billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. As per CNNC, this would be enough to meet the needs of over one million people or roughly 526,000 households.China also claims that the Linglong One nuclear reactor output would be comparable to a reduction of almost 880,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and the plantation of 7.5 million trees.

China Sanctions South Korean Shipbuilder Amid US Trade DisputeChina retaliates against five subsidiaries of South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean following a U.S. investigation into China's dominance in global shipbuilding, demonstrating the validity of U.S. concerns about unfair trade practices. The U.S. investigation, initiated in March 2024 and completed in May 2025, found that China's practices unfairly burden U.S. commerce through systematic subsidization and strategic targeting of the maritime industry. As a consequence, the U.S. now lags far behind China in shipbuilding. The U.S. is implementing new port fees on Chinese vessels.
