CLEVELAND, Ohio -Three years after a missing Cleveland EMT reported she was kidnapped and nearly burned alive, no one has been arrested or charged in the case.

Lachelle Jordan, 30, walked into a convenience store on Euclid Avenue in Cleveland in May 2023, barefoot with her shirt ripped, asking to call 911. Surveillance video showed Jordan disheveled and appearing to be in shock. Jordan told police she got away from the people who kidnapped her and they tried to burn her alive. Jordan, a mother of two, vanished from outside her Glenville home on May 6, 2023, setting off a massive, days-long search.

After she returned, police never released information about a suspect or suspects and said there was no threat to public safety. In July 2023, a city spokesperson said investigators had found “inconsistent evidence” in the case. Jordan returned to work that month. Cleveland’s chief prosecutor, Aqueelah Jordan, is Lachelle Jordan’s sister.

In November 2023, Mayor Justin Bibb said the prosecutor’s personal connection to the case did not leak into the investigation.

“We’ve been very focused on being transparent and letting the police department do its due diligence to make sure we get all the facts that come to the right conclusions as it relates to this case,” Bibb said. In fall 2023, the city said it would be “seeking outside counsel once the investigation is complete and ready for prosecutorial review” when asked if it would pursue criminal charges against Jordan if it’s determined she was not truthful about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

In October 2024 while under investigation, Jordan became a paramedic with Cleveland EMS, according to the city, a promotion with more responsibility and better pay. In April 2025, the city sent Jordan’s case to a special prosecutor for review. Attorney Michael O’Shea, who also serves as law director for the city of Rocky River, took over the investigation earlier that year. The city said it remained committed to an “independent, objective review” of the case.

In May 2026, a spokesperson for the city said the investigation is still open and ongoing and they cannot provide an update on an open investigation. O’Shea did not have a comment. The city said Jordan is still employed by Cleveland EMS. The Cleveland Association of Rescue Employees, the labor union for Cleveland EMS, had no comment.
