The Alabama Wildlife Center (AWC) is asking for public help as a deadline to secure funding in a creative way quickly approaches.

) - The Alabama Wildlife Center is asking for public help as a deadline to secure funding in a creative way quickly approaches. According to a spokesperson for the nonprofit, the AWC is the state’s oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation center and education organizer , providing education and outreach programs that reach more than 10,000 students each year.

They also operate Alabama’s only full-service wildlife hospital. The wildlife center is working to launch a wildlife rehabilitation specialty car tag. Nearly 700 people have already signed up, but if the campaign does not reach 1,000 commitments by Friday, May 1, the tag will not be produced.According to a spokesperson for AWC, the loss would be significant as the tag is expected to generate more than $40,000 annually for AWC. It would serve as a significant, recurring source of funding that would directly support the organization’s mission. “This is a critical moment for our organization,” said Chris Sykes, Executive Director of Alabama Wildlife Center. “We are so close, but we cannot get there without the public’s help in these final two weeks. This tag has the potential to create lasting support for wildlife in Alabama, but only if people act now.” Many people visit Oak Mountain State Park every day to explore the great outdoors, however, some guests visiting the park are there for another reason – To recover. The license plate costs $50. However, AWC emphasizes that cost should not be a barrier to participating. Supporters can choose to cover the $50 specialty tag fee themselves, or they can select a free sponsored option, with AWC covering the cost through donor support.Family files lawsuit saying high school cheerleader, 17, died from drinking Alani Nu energy drinksTwo shot at Mobile apartment complexSuspect reaches 90 mph in 25 mph zone during Mobile police chase
