Instacart data reveals the most popular Super Bowl snacks, with chips and dips leading the charge. Buffalo sauce, chicken wings, and hot sauce also see significant order increases, alongside regional preferences for queso and processed cheeses.
Super Bowl Sunday is approaching – and that means that many football fans will be hitting the grocery store to buy their favorite game day snacks. Instacart calculated the share of orders on its platform on the days leading up to the big game last year to determine which Super Bowl snacks most Americans are planning to serve this year.
The company found that chips and dips were the undisputed Big Game MVPs last year, with the share of orders well above the yearly average for tortilla chips , potato chips , salsas , and shelf-stable dips ."Together, these categories reflect a familiar and beloved formula: easy-to-assemble snacks that feed a crowd and keep fans fueled through every quarter," Instacart said.In addition, buffalo sauce orders increased 201% during the week of the Super Bowl in 2025, compared to the 12-month average, with smaller but notable upticks at the start of football season in September and another bump on New Year’s Day, when college football playoff games were in full swing.Meanwhile, frozen chicken wings also saw notable bumps throughout the year, with their most pronounced spike around the Big Game, when they are ordered 123% more often.Hot Sauce orders also peaked around the Super Bowl, Instacart added, with people adding it to their cart 38% more often. There’s also a notable spike in early May, driven by strong ties to Mexican and Tex-Mex meals around Cinco de Mayo. The company found that preferences differed regionally.Just as each region rallies behind its own team, each region also brings its own flavor preferences. Queso remained a game day staple with wide regional appeal, topping charts across the West and Upper Midwest. processed cheeses, like Velveeta, dominated across the South and Great Plains.RELATED: Super Bowl latest: Green Day confirmed as openerMeanwhile, chicken wings took the lead across much of the Midwest, Northeast, and parts of the West, while tortilla chips showed up as a top category throughout the Mountain West and Plains states.Buffalo sauces shined brightest in the Northeast – especially New York – a fitting show of hometown pride for a sauce born in Buffalo and still central to the region’s game day identity. The New England Patriots will take on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 2026 – a rematch following the Patriots’ victory over the Seahawks in the 2015 Big Game. Bad Bunny will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show in Northern California, and earlier this month, The NFL also announced the 60th Super Bowl would kick off with an opening ceremony featuring Green Day.
