MEDINA, Ohio - The Medina County Park District announced Wednesday its plans to reopen a portion of the former Chippewa Lake Amusement Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.
The park district says the opening of the trail is part of the first phase of development for the former amusement park, with the whole project meant to preserve the historic site. The new trail will feature a parking area, restrooms, a picnic shelter and a gravel loop trail. The district plans to expand the trail in the future by connecting it to the site of the former Tumble Bug ride.
“This is the first step in making Chippewa Lake Park a destination once again, albeit a different kind of park this time,” Nathan Eppink, the park district’s director, said. “Since 2020, we’ve created a master plan with public input, cleaned up crumbling debris and asphalt in the old park, and brought on the Chippewa Yacht Club and Chippewa Lake Historical Society as official partners. It’s an exciting time for the park district, our neighbors, and all of Medina County.
