Not pictured or participating was a fourth candidate, Rakhel Davidoff.UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education has two new members joining and one incumbent returning, based on final, unofficial results from the Nov. 4 election. Dan Heintz won his third term on the school board, with Tom Hodgkiss-Lilly and Kathi Howard-Primes taking seats in January as well.tutoring and educational services, received over 9,500 votes , according to results from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. Heintz, an American history teacher at Chardon High School and a Heights High graduate -- along with his wife and son -- picked up nearly 8,800 votes . Hodgkiss-Lilly, an attorney, Realtor and Heights High graduate with four kids in the district, rounded out the slate with 8,036 votes ., who declined to answer the League of Women Voters questionnaire or show up for the LWV candidates’ forum. Hodgkiss-Lily and Howard-Primes will succeed Malia Lewis and Jodi Sourini, both of whom declined to seek re-election after serving two terms on the school board. However, both of the outgoing incumbents planned to attend an “Emergency Town Hall on School Funding” tonight at Fairfax Elementary School, 3150 Fairfax Road in Cleveland Heights. The event was scheduled and hosted by the CH-UH School District in conjunction with Parents United for Public Schools , an organization recently involved in the Shaker Heights School District’s 9.9-mill operating levy that“Due to state and federal funding cuts, the CH-UH School District is being forced to slash approximately $5 million from its budget over the next two years,” the joint announcement stated. Superintendent Liz Kirby also planned to attend, along with district CFO and Treasurer Angele Latham, family engagement specialist Lisa Hunt and Reaching Heights parent-mentor Joy Howard. “In the 2026-26 state budget, Ohio lawmakers shortchanged public education by $2.8 billion, yet they sent $2.5 billion to unaccountable private schools that pick and choose the students they serve,” organizers noted. With that in mind, the CH-UH Schools announced that they would be partnering with PUPS to educate the public about these state and federal funding constraints. “In addition, the Ohio House recently passed new legislation that would make it harder for many school districts to raise funds locally,” emergency town hall organizers said. District officials planned to explain more about the impact of these cuts and what parents and community members can do to advocate for public schools. “Meanwhile, the Trump Administration is gutting the federal Department of Education and has fired almost every staffer in the Office of Special Education,” local officials added.
