The Alaska State Fair will hold its inaugural Cancer Screening Day hosted by Aurora Integrated Oncology Foundation.
hosted by the Aurora Integrated Oncology Foundation on Thursday, Aug. 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Providers will be set up between Raven Hall and the Farm Exhibit where patients can get screened. The event offers free prostate-specific antigen tests, HPV vaccines and cervical cancer self-screening test kits .
Mammograms will also be available but will be billed to insurance or can be paid through financial aid. Organizers say this is one way to get more people to meet with medical professionals and to make it as easy as possible to get screened. Jess Gutzwiler, AIOF Community Engagement Vice President, says attendees should bring an ID and if you are getting a mammogram, an insurance card. Gutzwiler says women over the age of 40 should start taking mammogram tests, or earlier if you have a family history. Men should take PSA tests starting at age 45. She also says HPV vaccines can be taken starting at age 9. “For people that haven’t been screened in a long time, this is your opportunity to join the day at the fair and then come get screened. But you know, for people that are doing self-checks for females on their breast, if they find something, this is a great opportunity to come and get a mammogram.”U.S. and Russian delegates sleeping in dorm rooms and Trump, Putin expected to hold joint press conference in Alaska100-foot tsunami peak recorded in Southeast Alaska, report saysAlaska healthcare workers break down misconceptions surrounding gout
